Fabric Softener:
Throw the fabric softener lid into the drum of the machine to use up any leftovers.

Remove, rinse and dry the drawer after each wash.

Dry the space behind the drum seal after each wash.
Leave the washing machine door open to prevent mold and odors from forming.
Baking Soda and Vinegar:
Use baking soda or vinegar to eliminate bad odors.
Use vinegar sparingly to avoid damaging the seals.
Salt and Citric Acid:
For soft towels, use salt and citric acid instead of fabric softener.
Approach:

Add a tablespoon of liquid detergent to the dispenser with a little warm water to rinse well.
