- 1st Step – Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a round baking dish or cake pan with butter or cooking spray and set aside.
- 2nd Step – Peel the potatoes and thinly slice them into rounds using a sharp knife or a mandoline slicer. Thinly slice the onions as well.
- 3rd Step – In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and minced garlic to the skillet, stirring occasionally, until the onions are soft and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, dried thyme, and dried rosemary.
- 4th Step – Arrange a layer of thinly sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish, overlapping slightly to form an even layer. Spoon a layer of the caramelized onions and garlic over the potatoes. Repeat the layers until all the potatoes and onions are used, finishing with a layer of potatoes on top.
