Instructions:
Custard Cream:
In a saucepan, heat milk and butter until it reaches a simmer. Set aside to cool slightly.
In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
Transfer the mixture back to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens into custard. Remove from heat and let it cool.
Dough:
A bright kitchen scene with a person flattening dough into discs, adding a dollop of custard cream in the center, and sealing the edges to form buns. The kitchen environment is clean and inviting.
In a bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Let it sit for 5-7 minutes until frothy.
Add low-protein flour, salt, baking powder, and cooking oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
Divide the dough into small portions and flatten each into a disc shape.
Spoon a dollop of custard cream into the center of each disc and seal the edges, forming buns.
Steaming:
Place the buns onto parchment paper in a steamer basket, leaving space between each.
Steam the buns over boiling water for 12-15 minutes or until they are cooked through.
